My Father's Road Song

While I was shopping today for veggies to put in my morning green smoothie (delicious by the way) I had this tune in my head.  The melody, by Les McCann entitled "Maxie's Change", has a rhythm that you must bop your head to. Its my father's road song.  So here's to my father (my main man), Les & the very tasty smoothie that was inspired by them!!

Brownie for Breakfast

Have breakfast at night? Why not, especially when its with the sounds of Clifford Brown's version of the Dizzy tune, "Night in Tunisia". Brownie, as was his nickname, was the most influential trumpeter of his generation. Listen to his brillliance on this tune while I enjoy my breakfast.

Featuring John Coltrane's "Blue Train"

One of my wife's favorite and mine too.  The soulful sounds of John Coltrane's "Blue Train" lifts the spirit and inspires a medley of flavors for a raw salad of red leaf romaine, arugula, red cabbage with sprouted sesame and pumpkin seeds; infused with a dressing combining cucumber, cashews, ginger, garlic, orange, lemon juice and olive oil.  Yum, healthy goodness!

John Henderson So Near, So Far

One of the best saxophone players of jazz music Joe Henderson played with some of the legends of his error: Charlie Parker, Miles Davis & Horace Silver to name a few. During the 50's he was a frequent musician in the Detroit jazz scene.
